“It has been a year like no other for us all and especially at The Dorset Arms, Withyham. We have opened, closed and re-opened and then closed again, all in line with the Government guidelines. We know that without the commitment of our dedicated team and the support of our suppliers and our wonderful customers this would not have been possible.

At the start of the first lockdown period we provided a take-away service, free to anyone who was in need and in isolation. We were overwhelmed by the support this initiave received, not only locally, but nationwide – generous donations enabled us to continue the provision with endless kind offers of local deliveries and ‘taxis’ to further afield. Unfortunately we were unable to continue with this as like many other pubs we had to furlough our staff and close completely.

Over the last 12 months we have all come to appreciate how important pubs are as the hub of the community; as a place to come together, socialise, relax, unwind and see friends old and new.

So it is with great excitement, that we will open our large gardens on Monday 12th April for outside dining and then inside dining from Saturday 17th May to welcome you all back to The Dorset Arms.”

Welcome and service was really good, enough GF options to choose from and lovely quiet environment to enjoy a leisurely meal. And well worth a temporary lapse in vegetarian diet to savour the crispy pork belly bites (appetiser) and the venison steak (main). Wonderful."

" stumbled across the Dorset Arms while in the area and what caught my eye straight away was the sight of oysters on the menu, not something you expect from a traditional pub tucked away in the middle of Sussex. Naturally, curiosity (and a love of good seafood) led me in.

I was genuinely impressed. The Mersey oysters were outstanding, fresh, briny, and as good as any I’ve had. In fact, I usually swear by the oysters at Smiths in Wapping, which are hard to top, but these were right up there.

The staff were polite, the atmosphere relaxed, and the food far exceeded expectations. If you are anywhere near the area, the Dorset Arms is absolutely worth a visit, especially if you’re an oyster lover."
